Peppermint White Hot Chocolate Recipe

Today I’m sharing with you a delicious and decadent recipe for Peppermint White Hot Chocolate. It’s super indulgent and you can make this year-round but I’ve decorated the mug with candy canes to make it really festive. It's easy to make a big batch for a lot of people, or just for yourself. So if you would like to learn how to make this peppermint white hot chocolate then let's get started. The first thing you need is mugs for as many people as you are making this for. I’m using these tall glass mugs, I just love the way you can see the hot chocolate through the glass but you can use whichever type of mugs you would like. I’m starting with decorating the rim of the glass, this step is optional but it looks amazing so if you have the time make sure you do it. Start by crushing up 1-2 candy canes per mug you are decorating. I’m making the peppermint white hot chocolate for 2 so I’m using 3 candy canes.

Peppermint White Hot Chocolate Recipe Ingredients

500 ml | 2 Cups Whole Milk
3 ml | 1/2 Teaspoon Peppermint Essence
150 g | 5 oz White Chocolate
3 Candy Canes
30 ml | 2 Tablespoons Corn Syrup or Glucose Syrup

Whipped Cream for serving

Place them into a plastic bag and use either a rolling pin or something with a flat surface that is heavy and begin to bash the candy canes until they are crushed into smaller pieces. Place them into a shallow bowl that can fit the rim of your mug. In a separate bowl mix a few tablespoons of glucose syrup or corn syrup with about a teaspoon of water to thin it out. If the syrup is just used on its own it’s too thick and the candy canes won’t stick too well. If you don have any glucose or corn syrup alternatively you can make your own syrup by mix sugar with a very small amount of water and place it over high heat until the sugar has dissolved.Give it time to cool down and it should thicken up.

Dip your glass into the syrup and move it around a little bit to make sure both the inside and outside of the rim is evenly and well coated with the syrup. Take the glass out and give a chance for any of the syrup to drip off the top. Place it into the bowl with the crushed candy canes. They should stick immediately, just make sure its all evenly coated. Remove it from the bowl and place it to the side to set while we do the next mug. Continue this process until you have decorated all of your mugs. If you have any leftover crushed candy canes you can save these to sprinkle over the top of the white-hot chocolate.

When all of the mugs are ready we can get started on the peppermint white hot chocolate. Measure out the milk and place it into a saucepan. Depending on the size of your mugs, a cup per person is usually a good amount. Add as plash of peppermint essence, or a little bit more if you would like it more minty.Place the milk over medium heat. Don’t let the milk boil, just bring it to a simmer. While you are waiting for the milk to heat up start to cut up some white chocolate into smaller pieces, or measure out some white chocolate chips. When the milk is starting to simmer place the chocolate into the saucepan and stir. This should only take about a minute or so to melt, just make sure the heat isn't too high or the chocolate could burn.

When the chocolate has completely melted and mixed in remove the hot chocolate from the heat a leave for about 5 minutes too cool down so it isn’t extremely hot. Pour the peppermint white hot chocolate in to the decorated mugs. You can drink it like this or if you would like you can add some whipped cream on top.
